A new television generation has just discovered the appeal of home made cakes and products but here in Tenerife it has always had pride of place.
During the slightly cooler winter nights, Los Cristianos beach front attracts food fans on Thursday evenings from October to March with a great home made spread and live music.
The Canarias Folk Fest is set out on a series of stalls at the promenade of the old beach and is open for business from 5pm. The tables groan under the weight of enticing cheeses, breads wrapped in golden crust and full of wholesome flavour, and honey delicately flavoured by the many flowers and grasses that our special weather produces.
Biscuits and sweets are also much in demand, crisp and crunchy and bursting with taste. Neighbouring areas of the island have pride in their own produce and that is particularly true of wine. Each point of the compass and each type of soil from dry and arid to fertile and moist add their influence to every glass.
The stalls continue selling during the evening and from 8.30 pm there is traditional folk music and dance in the Plaza del Pescadora under the watchful gaze of the fisherwomans statue. Take a stroll down the hill from Hotel Paradise Park and experience the tastes, flavours, and tunes of Tenerife.
