Carnaval Fever Heads To Tenerife North And South
You wont find the winter blues in Tenerife, February marks the start of Carnaval season with more music and colour than you can imagine. Santa Cruz
starts it all off with their Carnaval, second only to Rio, this years theme is Cartoon Characters but all the old favourite events will be there.
TThe Junior Queen is chosen on 16 February, the main Carnaval Queen is crowned on Wednesday 26 February, the big Coso parade takes place on 4th March with the sardine funeral the day after.
FSanta Cruz ignites the series of regional events and Arona Carnaval from 21 March to 31 March brings the fun and games within walking distance of Hotel Paradise Park. This years theme is Africa but anything goes in the way of fancy dress, even a glittery wig or silly hat is appreciated or you can just join in the fun as you are. The big launch is on Saturday 22 March with an evening parade from Veronicas in Las Americas to the edge of Los Cristianos.
Every night the Carnaval stage at the showground in the centre of Los Cristianos will feature elections like the senior, junior and main Queen as well as music and dance until late. Saturday 29 is a daytime celebration for all the family from the showground to the beach and Sunday is the big Coso parade from Paloma beach up into town. It all ends on the evening of Monday 31st March with the sardine funeral through the centre of Los Cristianos and down to the beach where it is burned amid a display of fireworks. Bring your camera, dancing shoes, and plenty of energy.
