The organizer of the event "Walk for Life", Brigitte Gypen, has given an interview to us in which she tells us all regarding the event... Do you want to know more?
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: What did you feel when you knew that you had this disease?
Brigitte Gypen: To be honest, the world ends for a while because no one is expecting something like this - especially not when there are no known cases within the family… but I was lucky to have a strong person by my side, who conveyed me that there was no way back, just forward...to fight!
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: What would you say to all those women whose are going through this disease? What would be the best advice you could give?
Brigitte Gypen: Ask for all necessary information, because having information gives you peace and strength. There is nothing worse than to “don’t know”, it is essential to know the reality and then you can start fighting. And it is important to have always someone by your side - partner, friend, neighbor, family, at least someone.
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: How arose this solidarity initiative? How it began? Were there any obstructions or did you feel at any time a lack of support for this event in its beginning? Were there obstacles?
Brigitte Gypen: When I finished the full course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy I was lucky but with the need to do more. I wanted to generate attention on early detection, because if it is detected early it can save lives. This was actually my motive.. None obstacles, because it is just a question of organization but if there was a fear, then that 11 years ago no one spoke that openly about cancer like now… luckily this changed...

Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: What can people who suffer from breast cancer and their families find if they go to the pink room?
Brigitte Gypen: It is a place of refuge, to talk a while with others, to escape, to have a laugh about silly stuff, at any time.
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: What are your future plans?
Brigitte Gypen: Continue fighting against the cancer and offer help to all people and their families, who live the same. We must ensure that cancer is no longer a taboo to talk about openly. To talk about it is itself a way to feel better. If the people want to, of course.
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: We know that the cure rate of breast cancer has increased, that means, there are more and more women who can be cured. Nowadays, is there any research that the percentage will increase further?
Brigitte Gypen: One of 8 women will have breast cancer. This is the harsh reality. But with early detection, increasingly more women are cured and with research therapies will become less aggressive. That are great news. But for research and progress, we need a lot of money.
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: We know that you have won the Abinque XI award in 2014, Congratulations! What did it mean to you to win this award?
Brigitte Gypen: It is an award and much appreciated, but it is from all and to all. I'm just one more. However, it is a privilege and an honor, that Adeje has thought of a Belgian adopted in Tenerife since many years...
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: Do you feel identified with the FUN philosophy of the hotel? Do you think a positive attitude to life and illness can help to overcome it?
Brigitte Gypen: I believe that positive attitudes are always good and highly recommended. It will not cure a disease but, without a doubt, with a positive attitude everything gets better.
Paradise Park Fun Lifestyle Hotel: If you have to choose a soundtrack to your life, which would it be?
