So Much To Enjoy In Los Cristianos At Christmas And New Year Like a Christmas cracker Los Cristianos is packed with treats and surprises to please all the family. Even the enticing beaches have competition for peoples attention at this time of year as the local community serves up plenty of choices.
Fun And Tradition You might not expect medieval fun and games in Tenerife but the team from San Miguel castle will be performing at the Ledesbell Commercial Centre on the main road towards Guaza Mountain, just behind Las Tarajales old beach. These activities will take place on 15 December from 1 to 2.30 pm and 28 December from 6.30 to 8 pm. On 21 December the Arona school of music and dance will be performing outside the Cultural Centre from 6pm. The next day (22nd Dec) Father Christmas will be around with friends to delight children of all ages. Look out for them in the main shopping zone between the church plaza and the port road. There will also be a youth music festival at the Plaza del Pescdora near the old beach. Then on 28 December a day of surprises is promised in the centre of Los Cristianos centred around the shopping area and beach promenade.
New Years Eve – Fireworks And Dancing The beach promenade will be busy with revelers waiting to welcome 2013. A grape for each stroke of midnight washed down with Cava or Champagne is traditional so go prepared. The New Year arrives to amazing displays of fireworks around the harbour, followed by dancing into the small hours at the church plaza and outside the Cultural Centre.
Reyes Eve (5 January) – Arrival Of The Three Kings Epiphany or Kings Day (6 Jan) is the big festive event on the local calendar; it celebrates the arrival of the three kings with their presents for baby Jesus. Around 4pm the previous evening Balthasar, Melchior, and Gaspar arrive at the ferry port on camels and head a procession of music and dance up and along Avenida Suecia to their thrones outside the Cultural Centre. On the journey they throw handfuls of sweets to the crowds and at their destination they give out presents to local children.
Shopping And Snacking Shopping is bound to make you hungry and thirsty so check out the Ruta de Tapas where 17 bars and restaurants are offering a tapa and a drink for just 2.5 euros. This offer will be running on Thursdays 13th, 20th, 27 December and 3 January, each day from 1 to 4 pm. For all promotions there are full details on the colour leaflet you can pick up at the Cultural Centre, or on the posters around Los Cristianos and in the windows of all business’s taking part.
Thursday evenings are a good time to pop down to Los Cristianos old beach for tastes and sounds of tradition. The Canarias Folk Fest starts at 6pm with stalls selling local cheese, wine, bread, and cakes. Then from 8.30pm there is live music and dancing in the Plaza del Pescadora.
Festive Sport On 26 December a three team charity football tournament, Amigos de Vitolo, takes place about 30 minutes away at Adeje football ground. It features former local players including Vitolo, now with Panathinaikos. Special guests are Tenerife born Pedro of Spain and Barcelona, Jeffren, ex Barcelona now with Sporting of Portugal, and Spain’s coach Vicente del Bosque. The event starts at 7pm, entrance is 5 euros adults and 3 euros children.
The 17th annual Torneo International BlueBBVA Football 7’s takes place from 27 to 29 December at the Estadio Olimpico on the edge of Los Cristianos and features Under 12 teams from Liverpool, Valencia, Real Betis, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Sevilla, Espanyol, Borussia Dortmund, Malaga, PSG - Paris St German. Games are on 27 Dec – 10 to 12.30 and 4 to 6.30, 28 Dec – 10 to 12.30 and 4 to 5.30, 29 December 11 and 12, grand finals 6 and 7.30. All games are FREE to watch.
