Tenerife Carnival, From 17/02/12 to 26/02/12 @ Santa Cruz de Tenerife

From Friday 17/02/12 to Sunday 26/02/12, the celebrations of Carnival will take place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife's carnival is considered the second most popular and internationally known after those held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). In fact the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is twinned with the city of Rio de Janeiro for this reason.

Thousands of people take to the streets every year for over a week in the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which was declared a Celebration of International Tourist Interest since 1980.

Carnival has two distinct parts, the 'official' carnival and the carnival in the street. The 'official' carnival has over 100 groups with an average of 50 components each: street musicians, parades, group costumes, street musicians and musical groups. The street carnival comes to be the participation of citizens in their own party.

Thousands of people come every day to the streets to participate in a costume and enjoy the streets every night for over a week.
