Golden Mile 10 km Run Comes To Playa de Las Americas
As well as the many professional sports stars who come to train in Tenerife there are plenty of keen amateurs who are boosted by the weather and surroundings. Tenerife is a runners delight, with or without the testing hills, and there’s a flat course through the commercial district and coastal promenade of Playa de Las Americas for the 10 km Golden Mile run on the evening of Saturday 18 January.
There are 2,000 places up for grabs on the main run or the 5 km version, competitors need to sign up at www.canaryrun.com by the 10 th January and pay a 15 euros fee for the 10k or 6 euros for the 5 km run. It’s a big family event with childrens races over reduced distances, 6 & 7 years, 8 & 9, and 10 and 11 will all run 400 metre races. For 12 and 13 year olds the challenge is 800 metres, and 14 and 15 year olds can tackle 1,200 metres. The entry fee for children is food or a new toy to help the needy.
For non runners it will be a spectacle to enjoy as the competitors start out from the Hotel Villa Cortes and run towards Los Cristianos before turning into Avenida Americas before finishing outside the Hard Rock Café. Racing starts at 6pm with the big 10 km chase setting out at 7pm, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants along the route if you want to make an evening of it.
